What if John, the last living apostle of Jesus Christ, was still alive and well… and living in Seattle?

In A.D. 100, John is restored to the body of his youth and sent on a mission with a warning to never reveal his true identity. He winds up on a small Greek isle where he faces an attempted assassination, a run-in with the Roman authorities, and develops a relationship with the daughter of the village leader.

Fast-forward to modern day Seattle, where John leads a foundation dedicated to bringing clean water to third world nations. A new television series brings attention to ancient legends about the true fate of John the apostle and threatens to reveal the truth of his identity. John struggles to keep his secret as he grows close to Nicole, a young woman he recruits to lead his organization.

For two thousand years, John has wandered the earth while hiding his true identity. But now, both friends and foes are on the verge of discovering who he truly is—an event that will trigger the end times.

Can John divert those who would discover his secret, or will curious friends and suspicious enemies spark the apocalypse? The Last Apostle is the first in the series of novels on the life of John over the last two millennia.

I read the endorsement by Tom Ziglar ''I read The Last Apostle by Dennis Brooke and loved it. My only regret is I finished it in one day and I want more! A fantastic story with an even better message.” and yes, it totally resonates. I loved it too. My only complaint was that I downloaded the book at night and I could not put it down...needless to say it was a very groggy next day for me.

The author’s central conjecture, that the Apostle John is still alive and well, and living in Seattle of all places, seems somewhat incredulous at first. But as I delved into the fast paced storyline replete with dizzying flashbacks between what clearly seem to be a well-researched and oh so richly detailed mix of historical fiction intertwined with contemporary locales (you know the cliché – it feels like you are there? Well, in this case it really does), it turned out to be an intriguingly crafted religious conspiracy thriller; a suspenseful telling that also reads easy and is rather believable at that.

It is this unexpected premise of course that draws you in and keeps you gripped, page after page. What if John is still alive? What if Jesus’ last words about the apostle in the eponymous book of John (Jn 21:22) are taken at face value? What if there is indeed a 2,000 year old man, still miraculously young and virile, walking in our midst on a mysterious quest, evading a murky enemy in the shadows, as he travels from city to city and country to country across the millennia? How would our protagonist have borne witness to the course of history and recounted it to a modern audience?

In the book, the apostle turns out to be quite a complex character, à la a combo of deft action hero Jack Ryan in a Tom Clancy spy noir and Christopher Lambert’s (he of ‘There can be only one’ fame) ancient warrior in the 80’s Highlander screen epic with just enough of a small Bruce Wayne type fortune that he has accumulated along the journey towards some purposeful end. Oh and throw in a ‘Romancing the Stone’ unfolding love interest to keep it spicy. That said; the author’s authentic characterization keeps the Apostle of Love very real with all too human foibles and poignant struggles that we can all relate to. Certainly there is a faith based slant, yet the theology is kept refreshingly lucid and not at all overbearing; in fact it’s quite artfully woven into the narrative and grace filled, insightfully so.

Clearly a sequel is called for, which you will discover to your dismay at the end…that frustrated pause when you want more but have to patiently wait…but also delight as you look forward to the next installment. I hope Dennis Brooke, wherever in the world he is now like his character, is busy writing away. This reader demands it.

The Last Apostle edition by Dennis Brooke Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

What a unique idea to think that John might still be alive today, and what he might be doing in modern day Seattle! Brooke took an excerpt from the bible that doesn't explicitly state that John actually died, and extrapolated on that using actual tidbits from our history and his own creative intellect to develop this story. This is by no means a book only for folks well versed in the Bible as Brooke doesn't expect the reader to have mastered it to understand the plot. It uses enough factual information to make it fascinating and informative, and enough fiction to make a character from the bible someone we can relate to in modern day society. Great story line! Highly recommended.
Excellent tale, but I need more eight now.

The ancient world is well written. Loved the characters. This looks to be an epic in the making.
Some time ago, I was privileged to read an early draft of a section of this book. From that moment, until I held the book in my hands, I've been looking forward to reading this story which begins with the premise What if the apostle John did not die?

THE LAST APOSTLE does not disappoint, but steadily intrigues as the reader follows Johanan on journeys throughout his time on this earth. Historical characters, ways of life, and possible scenarios with Johanan are woven throughout, adding a richness to the storyline. A wonderful read and now I'm looking forward to the next in this series!
I love the concept of this book. I like how John has high moral character and that the premise of the book gives us the reason why. I also like how the story telling is split so that we have the background story for why he does what he does. Its a great concept and if the author continues to do it well, could lead to a seemingly endless number of adventure stories since he has lived for 2000 years. There are enough story lines so that it keeps things interesting but it is not hard to follow. Very good cliff hanger at the end leaves you wanting to jump into the next book. Can't wait for it to be released.
I didn't know what to expect, but the idea of John the apostle living beyond the time of the early church all the way into modern times seemed compelling to me. The two story lines of the "young" John, only 100 plus years of age in the early days; and the "older" 2000 something years old John, are both compelling in their own right. Set side by side the reader is carried back and forth through time and finds he can relate to this man, in either age. He's is human, with all the flaws and temptations that accompany that condition; yet, obviously a little more than human owing to his immortality. He is on a mission from God, whom he has met, and knows well, yet cannot reveal who he is to anyone he meets, under direct orders from on high. The descriptions of both ages and the details of life in ancient Greece as well as modern Seattle pull one into each world as any good novel. It is one of those books I found hard to put down, always wanting to rush ahead to what was next at the end of each chapter, yet forcing myself to simply savor the tale at a slower pace for the sake of my own extended enjoyment, for a couple of weeks. My only criticism is he finally left us hanging off a pretty big ledge in the final paragraphs of the final chapter. I suppose that's why I, among others, can't wait much longer for the follow up.

Although, so-called Christian books are not my normal fare, I would think anyone would like this book. It's fun to read by any reckoning. It is moving spiritually, in my opinion. I liked it so much I bought several for friends of various denominations and faith levels. They also loved it. (one friend did state she would like the female characters to have a little more depth, which I as a man, didn't notice, but otherwise she thought it was great, and even went on to suggest this book as a good choice for middle and high school readers). Even my mom loves it, and she is a pretty tough customer to please.
